Local History Study Webinar: Perspectives and Prospects for History Learning.

.Yogyakarta, March 19, 2025 – The Master of History Education Study Program, Faculty of Social, Law, and Political Sciences (FISHIPOL) at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) held a webinar themed “Local History: Perspectives and Prospects for History Learning” on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. This event was held online via Zoom Meeting from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time, featuring expert speakers in the fields of history and education, namely Prof. Dr. Aman, M.Pd, Prof. Dr. Sugeng Priyadi, M.Hum. (UMP Purwokerto), Rikaz Prabowo, M.Pd. (Tanjungpura University, West Kalimantan). The webinar opened with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Social, Law, and Political Sciences (FISHIPOL) UNY, who emphasized the importance of local history studies in enriching history education in Indonesia. Local history is not only a source of knowledge about regional identity but also plays a role in shaping a more inclusive and contextual understanding of history. The webinar was attended by hundreds of participants consisting of students, lecturers, history teachers, researchers, and history enthusiasts. The question and answer session was interactive, with questions about the development of local history teaching materials, the digitization of historical sources, and collaboration between universities for regional historical research. The event concluded with the conclusion that local history has great prospects in strengthening history education, both at the school and university levels. Through this webinar, it is hoped that there will be greater awareness to explore, document, and integrate local history into education for the preservation of culture and national identity.
